LAWA’s Move to Drupal 10 Boosts UX and Governance Across Three Major Sites
Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) partnered with Hounder to migrate three major public websites and an employee portal from Sitecore to Drupal 10 on Acquia. The project spanned over 11,000 pages, introduced 76 reusable components, and consolidated 29 layouts into 19 user-friendly templates.
Beyond scale, the migration tackled deep structural issues—poor SEO, sluggish mobile experience, and developer-heavy workflows. Hounder used Drupal’s component-based editing and drag-and-drop tools to decentralize content control and modernize internal workflows. Real-time APIs for baggage tracking and flight status were re-integrated for operational continuity.
The case study highlights smooth execution, including a zero-downtime DNS cutover. Yet, technical details—like how complex Sitecore structures were mapped to Drupal, or which contrib modules were critical—are left out. Still, LAWA’s migration showcases Drupal’s viability for high-traffic government platforms with demanding operational needs.
