Pacing Yourself as a Developer (Freelance or Employed)

“I'm not a great programmer; I'm just a good programmer with great habits.”

― Kent Beck

Learn what it means to work at the "right speed" and the habits that can get you there.

I have been a developer for 20 years, spending some time as a team lead and the product lead at Pfizer. One thing that has been key to learning is how to set healthy, realistic expectations for me as a developer, the team, product owners, and managers.

I want to share the "Four Key Metrics" concept to help developers set clear goals to end their day, knowing their work is complete and feel good about the day. You can learn more about these strategies here https://cloud.google.com/devops/ and https://www.thoughtworks.com/en-us/radar/techniques/four-key-metrics

With these metrics, a developer will learn to push often to production, deploy in small batches and not fear mistakes but learn from them as an individual and a team.

By the end of this, I hope to help people start to think and plan in a way that allows them to find a healthy pace to the day-to-day work-life balance. And build great habits as a developer.
