JOB DESCRIPTION

Role: WordPress/ Drupal UI Developer

Location: Chicago, IL - Onsite

Duration: 1 Year

Contract Type: W2 or C2C

Job Description:

You will be responsible for developing and implementing an enterprise content management solution across multiple WordPress sites to allow the sharing of content across WordPress from many systems, including SharePoint and other platforms, via API. You will also develop user interface components and build/integrate mainly across multiple integrated WordPress sites.

This developer needs to be a team player with a great personality. They need to be dependable, responsible, function well under deadlines, be a self-starter, able to work independently and have a positive “can-do” attitude, will know when a project warrants “perfection” in coding or when it simply requires “the best available option within budget,” and be comfortable with both.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop Websites: Code responsive and user-friendly websites based on client specifications or approved graphic design files. This includes the creation or customization of WordPress template files and Gutenberg blocks.
  • Adhere to Development Standards and Best Practices: Maintain high code quality that adheres to community standards for accessibility, CSS coding, PHP coding, HTML coding, JavaScript coding, and Semantic HTML5 standards using a consistent markdown style guide.
  • Develop Custom WordPress Code: Extend the platform’s functionality as necessary through custom development of WordPress custom post types, plugins, or REST API connections.
  • Manage Back-End Services and Database Configuration: Oversee technical aspects of the CMS and server-side configurations for optimal performance.
  • Integrate with other systems, including document management systems like SharePoint and digital asset management (DAM) systems like Media Valet.
  • Ideally, it would be nice if you also have a good understanding of Azure, .Net, and other Microsoft systems since there will be integration points and sharing.
  • Maintain WordPress Core and Plugin Software: Regularly test and implement software updates related to WordPress core, plugins, or theme files.
  • Troubleshoot and Resolve Issues: Address website bugs or problems related to themes, plugins, or hosting environments.
  • Stay Updated on WordPress Updates: Research, learn, and implement the latest WordPress software and coding updates.
  • Provide Technical Support and Training: Offer support and training to clients or internal teams for managing and updating the WordPress CMS.
  • Other CMS implementations (AEM, Contentful, Content Stack, Sitecore, SharePoint, etc.)

 

Experience and Expertise

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of professional programming experience
  • Strong proficiency in JavaScript and its core principles.
  • 3+ years of professional experience with modern node.js-based frameworks such as React, Vue, and Angular)
  • 3+ years of CMS experience and at least 1+ year of WordPress and Drupal development experience
  • Knowledge of modern authorization mechanisms, such as JSON Web Token.
  • Experience with version control systems, such as Git.
  • Experience with cloud environments, especially Azure and AWS.
  • Experience with caching solutions like Cloudflare.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience creating and consuming REST or GraphQL APIs
  • Experience working with a variety of third-party Native libraries and WordPress plugins.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Experience creating and maintaining technical documentation.
  • Experience with Git source control and JIRA.
  • Front-end programming software such as HTML, CSS, Bootstrap, JavaScript (vanilla JS, jQuery, ES6), Angular, and React
  • Back-end software such as PHP, Java, Python, Node.js, Ruby, Sass, and .NET
  • MySQL database usage and optimization
  • Wp-CLI commands
  • WordPress core architecture
  • Multiple authoring and theming, including Gutenberg blocks, Bricks, and others.
  • Semantic HTML5 coding
  • Accessibility (WCAG 2.0+, WCAG 3, UAAG, ARIA, etc.)

Nice to have:

  • Professional experience with other JavaScript frameworks (Vue, Angular, Node)
  • Experience integrating with native device functionality and frameworks.
  • Developed on headless WordPress or headless Drupal before.
  • Experience with other mobile development tools, including native iOS, native Android, Flutter, or other cross-platform tools.
  • Cloud: AWS, Azure DevOps.
