The Drupal community continues its unwavering commitment to excellence. Thanks to an ongoing partnership between the Google Chrome team and Tag1 Consulting, Drupal's performance and scalability are set to receive a substantial boost. Tag1 Consulting and Google Chrome Team introduces Gander, a revolutionary open-source automated performance testing framework, spearheaded by Drupal's core release and framework manager, Nathaniel Catchpole.

Gander is poised to be a game-changer, not only for the Drupal platform itself but also for end-users of Drupal, who can now seamlessly integrate performance testing into their DevOps toolchain. This new framework promises to provide a competitive advantage to websites powered by Drupal, delivering unrivalled performance optimization capabilities.

Nathaniel Catchpole, the driving force behind Gander, expressed the significance of this collaboration, saying, "The success of that collaboration has shown us that we should strive to achieve more. We analyzed Drupal’s needs, considered the priorities of Google’s Chrome team, and concluded that automated performance testing is the next step we should take."

Gander, aptly named as it allows users to "take a gander" at their performance, is now being seamlessly integrated into Drupal's automated QA infrastructure. Initially, it will run regularly on active Drupal core branches, contributing to the continuous enhancement of Drupal's core performance. Looking ahead, the ambitious goal is to extend its reach further to test open merge requests and expand its support to Drupal distributions, contributed modules, and themes with active community involvement.

While the primary aim is to elevate Drupal Core development to new heights, the applications of Gander are far-reaching. For Drupal core maintainers and committers, automated performance testing presents a significant advantage, ensuring that performance degradation concerns are addressed proactively rather than reactively.

Tag1 Consulting will be hosting a Birds of a Feather (BoF) session at DrupalCon Lille on 19 October to provide insight into the motivation behind Gander, its benefits for Drupal, developers, and organizations, and the roadmap for its future development. This collaborative effort exemplifies the Drupal community's commitment to pushing the boundaries of website performance and user experience. Nathaniel Catchpole, will also do a live demo and answer questions to help you get started.
