The future of PHP_CodeSniffer (PHPCS), a critical library for major PHP projects, hangs in the balance after being abandoned by long-time sponsor Squiz. Despite the ongoing efforts of dedicated maintainer Juliette Reinders Folmer, Squiz has refused to transfer ownership, leaving the project's fate uncertain.

In a revealing blog post by Joost de Valk on Post Status, the backstory of this crisis has been shared. In response, Juliette has taken the initiative to fork PHPCS, aiming to release version 3.8.0 soon. The community's support is now more crucial than ever to ensure the continued development and sustainability of PHPCS.
