Survey on Forming European Open Source User Group for Public Administrations
The FOSSEPS and OSOR projects are conducting a survey to assess interest in forming a European Open Source User Group for public administrations. The initiative seeks input from IT professionals within EU public bodies on the current use and challenges of Free and Open Source Software (FOSS). The survey will gather feedback to explore how a collective user group could address common FOSS-related issues and promote resource pooling across public sector organizations.
Respondents are invited to share their roles, the level of government they work with, and their experiences with FOSS, including its benefits and challenges. Topics covered include the main reasons for adopting FOSS, barriers to its use, and the potential for collaboration between EU public bodies in areas such as software development, security, and sustainability. The survey aims to inform discussions at an upcoming workshop in October 2024, which will focus on forming a user group to enhance FOSS management and collaboration.
Participation is encouraged from those knowledgeable about FOSS within their organizations. The survey results will help shape future decisions on the potential establishment of this user group, with input going towards fostering dialogue and cooperation within the EU’s public sector FOSS ecosystem.
