On December 9, 2024, the spotlight will shine on projects like QED42’s during the Splash Awards, hosted at 5:15 PM in the Garden Ballroom at PARKROYAL Collection Marina Bay. This is not just a celebration of technical prowess but also of how innovation drives meaningful impact.
The American Diabetes Association
The American Diabetes Association (ADA) is a leading nonprofit dedicated to combating diabetes through education, research funding, and enhanced care services. The organization’s digital platforms are crucial to its mission of reaching and supporting millions affected by diabetes worldwide. ADA’s commitment to leveraging advanced technology ensures that their outreach and support remain accessible, efficient, and impactful.
The Challenge
ADA’s existing digital canvas was fragmented, with websites running on different versions of Drupal (7, 8, and 9) and custom CMS platforms. This patchwork approach caused inconsistencies in design, branding, and content delivery. Managing these varied systems was operationally inefficient, requiring significant effort from ADA’s teams while delivering subpar user experiences to its audience.
A unified approach was critical to overcoming these challenges. ADA needed a solution that not only addressed the lack of cohesion but also provided scalability, flexibility, and the ability to tailor solutions for diverse user needs. The platform had to accommodate distinct site-specific features while retaining the overall organizational identity and ensuring seamless functionality.
The Solution
QED42 implemented a comprehensive solution centred around a unified Drupal 10 platform. This effort required strategic planning, collaboration with ADA’s design team, and an emphasis on both functionality and branding.
The migration consolidated multiple platforms into a single, robust Drupal 10 setup, leveraging its advanced multisite capabilities. This architecture allowed the creation of three distinct websites, each with its own database, under a single codebase. It provided ADA with the flexibility to manage unique site-specific requirements while streamlining development and maintenance processes.
Brand consistency was a key focus, achieved through a unified theme and the development of a shared component library. ADA’s design language was reinforced across all websites, ensuring users experienced a cohesive identity regardless of the site they accessed. The platform incorporated powerful tools for dynamic content creation, using Layout Builder and Paragraphs for customizable page layouts. Apache Solr was introduced for enhanced search capabilities, enabling users to find information quickly and effectively. Additionally, QED42 integrated third-party authentication systems and a content moderation workflow, simplifying content creation, review, and approval processes for ADA’s internal teams.
Rigorous testing ensured the platform’s reliability and performance. Functional, usability, cross-browser, and pixel-perfect UI testing were conducted to address ADA’s diverse user base and technical requirements. This iterative process enabled fine-tuning based on user feedback, ensuring a platform optimized for real-world usage.
The Result
The migration to Drupal 10 has transformed ADA’s digital presence. The unified platform provides a seamless and intuitive user experience, eliminating inefficiencies in content management and improving accessibility for users worldwide. The multisite architecture ensures streamlined operations while enabling individual sites to retain their unique characteristics and functionality.
Through enhanced branding, dynamic content capabilities, and advanced search functionalities, ADA can now deliver its critical mission-driven content with impact and precision. The scalable and future-proof system positions ADA to continue evolving its digital presence to meet emerging needs.
