Drupal 11 Release: Aten Design Group Outlines Upgrade Strategy
Aten Design Group has published a blog post detailing the Drupal 11 upgrade process, offering insights into when and how users should transition to the new version. While upgrading from Drupal 10 to 11 is less complex than past major version jumps, careful planning is still necessary, particularly for sites with numerous custom or contributed modules.
The blog post written by Seth Hill, emphasizes the Upgrade Status module, which helps assess module compatibility and required code changes. The recommended approach involves staged upgrades, starting with server requirement checks, followed by module updates, and finally, Drupal core upgrades. Depending on the site's complexity, the process can take anywhere from a few hours to several weeks.
According to the blog, the optimal time for most users to upgrade is late 2025, as Drupal 10 will reach its end of life in mid-2026. However, those with simpler sites can upgrade sooner. Aten Design Group also highlights Drupal 12's expected release in 2027, reinforcing the importance of a strategic upgrade timeline.
