One Year In: Custom LMS Enhances Training and Collaboration for Illinois SNAP-Ed Staff
The University of Illinois’ Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Education (SNAP-Ed) is marking one year since launching a custom learning management system (LMS) built to support internal training and staff collaboration across the state. Developed by Breakthrough Technologies in partnership with the University of Illinois Extension and the Chicago Partnership for Health Promotion, the platform was created using Drupal and tailored specifically for SNAP-Ed professionals delivering the “Eat. Move. Save.” initiative.
Unlike off-the-shelf LMS platforms designed for public users, this solution was built for educators, coordinators, and community leaders. It enables ongoing certification, centralizes training resources, integrates with existing systems, and provides real-time analytics through a mobile-optimized interface.
Key features include an intuitive design for all technical skill levels, seamless integration with internal tools, mobile access for field staff, and scalable architecture to adapt to future program needs. Administrators can monitor training participation and compliance through built-in dashboards.
Over the past year, the Drupal-based platform has become a central hub for SNAP-Ed staff, improving communication, standardizing learning processes, and delivering actionable insights that help guide strategy across regions.
