Stories by Dan Wilson
Dan Wilson is the Senior Product Marketing Manager for CKEditor. As a reformed developer and now product marketer, Dan has extensive experience building and growing technology-focused products and services. He got his first taste of fast-moving tech when he joined his first start-up in 1999. After 15 years of writing software and building products, he hung up his semicolon spurs and became a product marketer. Outside of work, you can find him behind a drum set, at his kid's athletic events, or helping local small businesses grow.
WHAT I DO: I’m a product marketing professional, technologist, public speaker, trainer, and storyteller—everything an enterprise technology business needs to succeed in today’s tough marketplace. As a natural promoter and gestalt strategic thinker, nothing excites me more than growing early stage products and businesses into bigger, more successful enterprises.
WHY IT MATTERS: Throughout the twists and turns of my career, one theme rings true: the right application of technology makes life easier. I have launched, resurrected, or gracefully sunset huge technology initiatives, ranging from healthcare platforms to application development toolkits to next-gen Internet of Things (IoT) cellular technologies. My mission is simple: I create programs and products that people want to use.
WHO I WORK WITH: One of the primary ways I add value is by aligning different personalities toward a persuasive, motivating vision. That means translating between tech-jargon, sales-pitch, and business-lingo in the same conversation, framing solutions so everyone can get on board. This is the most authentic way to align disparate personalities, promote mutual understanding, and focus on producing maximal outcomes.
WHAT MAKES ME DIFFERENT: I began my career as a self-taught software programmer in the trenches of early application development. Then, I took a leap of faith by founding a software consultancy and sharing my knowledge as a frequent flier and speaker at international technology conferences. This technical foundation enables me to master the nuances of our products, personas, and professional networks—and then make them better.
