JOB DESCRIPTION

  • Deliver JIRA tickets end-to-end, including:
    • Custom Drupal modules
    • Hooks
    • Controllers
    • Services
    • Views
    • Theme development
    • Configuration changes
  • Use AI-powered coding assistants daily (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, Codex, Cline), critically evaluate their output, and maintain high code quality standards.
  • Follow project coding conventions, including:
    • Dependency injection (no \Drupal:: static service calls)
    • Proper type annotations
    • PHPDoc documentation
    • Cache metadata for render arrays
  • Develop and maintain high-performance, scalable code by:
    • Avoiding N+1 queries
    • Applying appropriate caching strategies
    • Profiling applications when necessary
  • Implement Drupal security best practices, including:
    • Input validation
    • Access control
    • XSS prevention
    • SQL injection prevention
    • CSRF protection
  • Write and maintain PHPUnit unit tests and Drupal Test Traits (DTT) integration tests alongside feature development.
  • Troubleshoot issues across the full application stack.
  • Review relevant functional specifications before making code changes.
  • Update technical documentation before submitting merge requests.
  • Collaborate with technical leads, developers, designers, and project managers to deliver well-defined solutions.
  • Participate in code reviews for colleagues' merge requests and provide and receive constructive feedback. 

Requirements

  • 3–5 years of Drupal development experience (Drupal 9 or Drupal 10).
  • Strong proficiency with PHP 8.x.
  • Hands-on experience with AI coding assistants such as:
    • Claude Code
    • Cursor
    • GitHub Copilot
    • Codex
    • Cline
  • Strong knowledge of Drupal fundamentals, including:  
    • Custom module development
    • Hook system
    • Entity API
    • Views
    • Configuration management
    • Twig templating
    • Services
    • Dependency injection
  • Strong object-oriented PHP programming skills, including:
    • Interfaces
    • Inheritance
    • Traits
    • Practical application of SOLID principles
  • Experience building or consuming REST APIs with Drupal using:
    • JSON:API
    • Drupal REST module
    • Custom controllers
  • Knowledge of SOAP is a plus.
  • Good understanding of Drupal security best practices and OWASP principles.
  • Experience with:
    • Composer
    • Drush
    • Git
    • Branch-based development workflows
    • Pull requests / Merge requests
  • Experience with at least one testing framework:
    • PHPUnit
    • Behat
    • Drupal Test Traits (DTT)
  • Ability to debug unfamiliar Drupal code using tools such as:
    • Xdebug
    • Application logs
    • Query analysis tools
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Professional proficiency in English (spoken and written) for collaboration with teams across Canada, the United States, and internationally.
  • Professional proficiency in French (spoken and written). 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Acquia and/or Pantheon (the organization is currently migrating from Acquia to Pantheon).
  • Experience with Site Studio (formerly Cohesion).
  • Experience using DDEV or Lando for local development.
  • Experience integrating Drupal with:
    • Salesforce
    • Auth0
    • Solr
    • Memcached
  • Front-end development experience with:
    • SCSS
    • Bootstrap
    • Native JavaScript using Drupal.behaviors
  • Experience with performance optimization, including:
    • Eliminating N+1 queries
    • Improving cache hit rates
    • Using New Relic for monitoring and profiling
