JOB DESCRIPTION

  • Work closely with product managers, designers, frontend developers, SysOps teams, and colleagues to deliver robust backend solutions, including APIs, services, and data pipelines that support customer experiences.
  • Communicate technical concepts effectively to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Actively participate in Agile ceremonies, including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, backlog refinement, and retrospectives.
  • Contribute to code reviews by providing constructive feedback, identifying quality, security, and performance issues early, and incorporating peer feedback promptly.
  • Foster a collaborative team environment by supporting teammates, sharing knowledge, documenting technical decisions, and promoting positive teamwork.
  • Mentor and coach other developers through pair programming, design reviews, and troubleshooting support. 

Engineering Excellence

  • Design, develop, and maintain backend services using the PHP ecosystem and popular CMS platforms such as Drupal, WordPress, and Craft CMS.
  • Write clean, efficient, maintainable, and resilient code while following high engineering standards for readability and testability.
  • Design and evolve REST APIs and service contracts with a focus on accuracy, usability, backward compatibility, and comprehensive documentation.
  • Apply engineering best practices to ensure high-quality software delivery through:
    • Unit testing
    • Integration testing
    • Automated quality checks
    • Continuous validation
  • Contribute to system architecture and solution design by creating architecture diagrams, Architecture Decision Records (ADRs), and technical design documents.
  • Improve operational excellence through logging, metrics, tracing, alerting, performance optimization, and incident monitoring.
  • Collaborate on CI/CD practices to improve deployment speed, reliability, and production stability. 

Innovation & Continuous Improvement

  • Research and recommend new technologies, tools, and approaches to improve performance, resilience, developer experience, and cost efficiency.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of engineering practices and workflows.
  • Participate in internal workshops and training to stay current with industry trends.
  • Help evolve AI-powered developer experience and engineering practices. 

Senior-Level Expectations

  • Take ownership of backend components throughout the entire lifecycle—from design to production operations.
  • Thrive in ambiguous situations by analyzing problems, evaluating trade-offs, and guiding technical decisions.
  • Raise engineering standards for code quality, security, performance, and system reliability.
  • Influence architecture, coding standards, shared tools, and engineering best practices beyond individual deliverables.
  • Serve as a mentor and support the professional growth of other developers. 

Required Qualifications

  • Strong experience with the PHP ecosystem (modern PHP and at least one popular CMS).
  • Proficiency with development tools including:
    • Git
    • CI/CD pipelines
    • Bash scripting
    • Docker
  • Experience designing and maintaining production backend APIs and services, including:
    • REST APIs
    • API versioning
    • API documentation
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Relational databases (SQL)
    • ORMs (Object-Relational Mapping)
    • Database migration practices
  • Knowledge of software testing strategies, including unit and integration testing.
  • Strong commitment to continuous learning with a proactive and positive attitude.
  • Excellent communication skills in both French and English, enabling effective collaboration. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Drupal, WordPress, and/or Craft CMS.
  • Experience with frontend technologies such as:
    • React
    • Angular
    • Vue.js
  • Experience integrating CRM platforms such as Salesforce.
  • Cloud-native development experience, including:
    • Containers
    • Container orchestration
    • Infrastructure as Code (IaC)
    • SysOps practices
  • Experience with observability tools, including metrics, logging, tracing, and incident management.
  • Knowledge of secure software development practices, including:
    • OWASP guidelines
    • Secure APIs
    • Secrets management
  • Experience optimizing application performance and infrastructure costs.
