Revision Graph 4.0.0 Records Revision Provenance in Drupal

The Revision Graph module 4.0.0 records revision provenance when new revisions are saved, reducing its reliance on relationships reconstructed later. Drupal.org lists the stable release as published on 15 August 2026 for Drupal 11 and Drupal 12. Shibin Das, maintainer of Revision Graph, said the rewrite began while investigating incorrect status markers on a node translated into English, Afrikaans, and Bengali.

The change addresses a problem with reconstructing lineage from Drupal's stored revision data. Shibin writes that the node_revision table contains no parent_vid field recording which revision another revision was derived from, leaving graphing tools to record that relationship themselves or infer it later. He also distinguishes the revision a save was built from, the language a translation originated from, and the sequence of published revisions visitors see as different relationships that should not be treated as the same history. Version 4.0.0 stores the loaded parent revision as a base field when new revisions are saved, while existing revisions are not backfilled and continue to use inferred edges.

The interface has also been rebuilt around a single revision rail instead of the earlier graph-and-list arrangement. A ring around a language dot indicates that a revision was once the default revision, while the centre shows whether that revision is currently both published and live for the language. Node-wide facts, including the default revision and the revision currently live for each language, are displayed as text above the rail and on the relevant revision row rather than being attached to one translation's dot. Shibin says this separation was necessary because the previous display could place node-level state on the language touched by a revision, creating a misleading visual result.

Revision Graph 4.0.0 also introduces breaking changes to its payload, renderer, and CSS class names, and Shibin instructs upgrading sites to run drush updb. The 4.0.0 release supports Drupal 11 and 12, while version 3.1.1 remains available for Drupal 10 and 11.
