Multnomah County

The county serves a population of approximately 766,135 residents, making it the most populous county in Oregon. It covers an area of 465 square miles, which is the smallest county by size in the state. The county includes several cities, such as Fairview, Gresham, Maywood Park, Portland, Troutdale, and Wood Village.

With around 5,600 employees, the county provides a range of services, including support for seniors and individuals with disabilities, animal services, assessment and taxation, community justice, and court services. Other functions include managing elections, health services, jails, libraries, and issuing marriage licenses and passports. The county also fosters partnerships with schools and community organizations.

Governance is managed by four commissioners elected by district, along with a board chair, sheriff, district attorney, and auditor who are elected countywide. The county holds weekly board meetings every Thursday at 9:30 a.m. in the first-floor board room located at 501 S.E. Hawthorne Blvd. The county was established on December 22, 1854, and is named after the native people of the region.
