Government Summit at DrupalCon Rotterdam 2026: A Dedicated Space for Public Sector Collaboration
For the first time, DrupalCon Europe will host a dedicated Government Summit. A full-day event bringing together local, national and European public administrations to share digital solutions, explore common challenges, and build lasting collaborations. The Call for Sessions is now open.
On Monday, 28 September 2026, DrupalCon Rotterdam will host the Government Summit. A dedicated space for government and public sector organisations to connect, share, and collaborate on shared digital transformation challenges.
Taking place at the Postillion Hotel & Convention Centre WTC Rotterdam, the summit is the first of its kind at a DrupalCon Europe event. It reflects the growing recognition that public sector organisations across Europe face common digital needs, and that Drupal is uniquely positioned to support them.
A focused space for government innovation
Public sector organisations, from local councils and national ministries to European institutions, share a wide range of digital requirements: public-facing websites, intranets, case management systems, complaints handling, and reporting platforms. Yet these organisations often develop solutions in isolation, missing opportunities to collaborate and reuse.
The Government Summit is designed to change that. By creating a dedicated forum within DrupalCon, the event brings together practitioners, decision-makers, and digital leaders from across the public sector to share what is working, surface what is not, and identify where collaboration can accelerate progress.
The summit is closely aligned with the work of LocalGov Drupal in the United Kingdom, a successful model of cross-authority collaboration that has demonstrated the value of open-source cooperation in the public sector. Many of the practitioners and topics emerging from that community will be represented at the summit, extending its reach to a European and international level.
Program structure
The day is structured to move from knowledge-sharing to action:
Morning: Rapid knowledge exchange — A series of focused 20-minute presentation sessions covering case studies, demos, and insights from across the public sector. The format is intentionally concise, designed to maximise exposure to diverse experiences and inspire new ideas.
Afternoon: Facilitated workshops — Structured collaborative sessions focused on establishing and deepening partnerships around shared challenges and existing or emerging projects. Participants will leave with concrete connections and next steps.
Digital sovereignty and open source
The summit speaks directly to one of the most pressing concerns in European digital policy: digital sovereignty. As public administrations seek greater control over their infrastructure, data, and services, open source technologies, and Drupal in particular, offer a proven path forward.
Drupal powers digital services across local councils, national governments, and European institutions. Its open, community-governed model aligns naturally with public sector values of transparency, interoperability, and long-term sustainability. The Government Summit provides an opportunity to deepen that alignment and to explore how cross-border collaboration can accelerate the development of shared solutions.
"At a time when digital sovereignty and open source are moving to the top of the European digital agenda, the Government Summit offers a rare opportunity to turn shared values into shared solutions."
Call for Sessions: Submit now
The Call for Sessions is now open. Organisers are seeking presentations, case studies, demos, workshops, and facilitated discussions from across the public sector community.
Whether you have a project worth sharing, a problem worth solving collaboratively, or a sector-wide question worth raising, we encourage you to participate. Selected participants will receive a complimentary ticket to the summit.
Submissions are welcome from speakers, panellists, and discussion facilitators at all levels, from hands-on practitioners to strategic decision-makers.
"We look forward to welcoming colleagues from across the public sector in Rotterdam. If you have something to share, or something to solve, the Government Summit is your space."
The Government Summit is the opening day of DrupalCon Rotterdam 2026, a four-day gathering of the global Drupal community from 28 September to 1 October. Tickets to the summit are available as a discounted add-on to the DrupalCon ticket, or as a separate purchase just for the summit.
