LaMMA

The LaMMA (Laboratorio di Monitoraggio e Modellistica Ambientale) is a public consortium based in Tuscany, Italy, formed by the collaboration between the Tuscany Region and the National Research Council (CNR). It focuses on environmental monitoring and modeling to support sustainable development. LaMMA provides high-value services and products related to meteorological and oceanographic forecasting, leveraging advanced numerical modeling techniques. It plays a crucial role in regional emergency management, particularly in meteorological services for civil protection, and has been involved in significant national projects, such as the removal of the Costa Concordia wreck. The organization is structured into four divisions: 1. **Atmospheric Physics** - focuses on meteorological observation and modeling, including air quality and climate change studies. 2. **Oceanography** - deals with marine observations and modeling to support environmental protection and maritime safety. 3. **Geomatica** - manages territorial databases and supports land defense and planning. 4. **Technical and Functional Division** - oversees administrative and operational functions. LaMMA also engages in research and development, participates in national and international projects, and provides educational resources and outreach programs. Its headquarters are located in Sesto Fiorentino, with additional offices in Livorno and Grosseto.
