1. Celebrating Drupal’s 20th Anniversary

Drupal 1.0.0 was released on January 15th, 2001, by Dries Buytaert in a university dorm. Today it has evolved into an innovative digital platform used by some of the most prominent organizations worldwide. Dries, in his blog1 said he at that time had no idea that Drupal would someday power one in 35 websites and impact so many lives globally.

2. Drupal 8 End of Life

In November 2021, six years after its launch, Drupal 8 which had brought some high-impact changes and improvements, reached the end of its life. End of Life means that the Drupal community stopped supporting it with new security updates to focus on Drupal 9.

3. DrupalCon North America

Despite the pandemic, the Drupal community had many opportunities to connect and share their experiences and knowledge. At DrupalCon North America, Dries shared his perspective2on the future of Drupal and the roadmap for Drupal 10.

4. Drupal Diversity and Inclusion Camp

In 2021, Drupal Diversity and Inclusion (DDI) hosted the first-ever Drupal Diversity and Inclusion (DDI) camp. They created a safe space to discuss diversity and support underrepresented people in the tech industry.

5. Discover Drupal

2021 also saw the launch of Discover Drupal, an initiative to provide training and mentoring to underrepresented people interested in starting a career in Drupal. The initiative aims to remove barriers faced by students when starting their careers in Drupal.

We can’t predict what 2022 has in store for us, but some of the most significant events that will happen this year are the launch of Drupal 10, Drupal 7 end of life in November, DrupalCon North America in April and DrupalConEurope.
