Discover Drupal Program: Celebrating Success and a Strategic Future
Drupal Association shared a blog post by Joi Garrett, highlighting the achievements of the "Discover Drupal" program and outlining plans for its strategic future. "Discover Drupal" aims to empower individuals from historically marginalized communities by providing them professional and economic opportunities in Drupal-related careers. This 12-18 month initiative offers comprehensive training, mentorship, and hands-on experience, enabling graduates to develop their skills and talents.
Over the past year, the students of the Discover Drupal program dedicated their time and effort to the extensive training provided by DrupalEasy or Evolving Web. With the support of Drupal mentors and strategic partnerships, this year's cohort achieved remarkable success, honing their abilities and talents through various activities, including weekly office hours with Ryan Price and monthly professional development workshops led by Drupal Community members.
The program's impact was further amplified when the students had the opportunity to attend DrupalCon Pittsburgh. They connected with other Drupal enthusiasts at the event, presented their final projects, and participated in a recruitment fair.
The Discover Drupal program is taking a brief pause during the 2023-2024 program year to create a strategic plan aiming for the future. The upcoming plan will be based on feedback from past students and mentors, emphasizing fostering equitable learning environments. The goal is to ensure that students can engage and learn from individuals who may share similar identities, ultimately promoting an inclusive and supportive learning experience.
While acknowledging the program's positive impact thus far, the Drupal Association seeks to amplify the voices of historically underrepresented individuals in the Drupal community. By intentionally uplifting these voices, the Discover Drupal program aims to be led by the needs of those most deeply impacted, creating further opportunities for marginalized individuals to take on leadership roles.
The Drupal Association's commitment to a strategic future will involve the development of a new curriculum and strong partnerships with key stakeholders. Applications for the 2024-2025 Discover Drupal cohort are scheduled to open in June 2024, and the Drupal community eagerly anticipates the program's continued success and its role in amplifying the voices and talents of marginalized leaders.
