Join Indus Action’s Effort to Enhance RTE-MIS, an Open-Source Tool for Education Access
Indus Action, a social development organization, is calling for tech volunteers to contribute to the enhancement of its open-source Digital Public Good, RTE-MIS (Right to Education Management Information System). Built on Drupal and MySQL, the platform supports the implementation of Section 12(1)(c) of India’s Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009. The system aims to assist state governments in managing the policy's execution effectively while promoting transparency and accessibility.
The RTE-MIS features nine functional modules, including tools for state-specific permissions, school administration, student registration and tracking, a lottery allocation system for school placements, admission tracking, reimbursement claims, and grievance management. Designed as an open-source initiative, RTE-MIS aspires to foster community-driven development and sustained maintenance for broader adoption.
Indus Action has already developed the MVP version and is collaborating with various state governments for implementation. To further enhance the system, the organization seeks volunteers with experience in Drupal application development. Volunteers are expected to dedicate 4-8 hours per week to contribute to feature development and application enhancements.
The open-source project repository is available on GitHub, and the RTE-MIS can be accessed through this link. Interested individuals can contact Ankit Saxena at [email protected] to join the initiative and contribute to this impactful project aimed at bridging educational access for children across India.
