Performance Testing Brings Key Enhancements to Drupal CMS
Nathaniel Catchpole of Tag1 Consulting reported that performance testing using Gander has significantly improved Drupal CMS and the broader Drupal ecosystem. Key enhancements include reducing the Klaro cookie consent module's JavaScript load from 200KB to zero by implementing on-demand loading and optimizing its build process, improving the Coffee module by limiting AJAX requests to when its search modal is opened and optimizing the experimental Navigation module by reducing unnecessary menu tree queries.
Additionally, issues in the Language module's query caching and Recipe API's installation efficiency were identified and addressed. Further optimizations targeted Drupal's cache backends and nightly testing against contrib dependencies was implemented to catch regressions early. These efforts, coupled with the identification of a major front-page redirect bug, underscore the impact of systematic performance testing on improving efficiency across all Drupal installations. Nathaniel emphasized that these initiatives enhance performance for Drupal CMS and the wider Drupal community.
