Building Drupal Europe: Local Communities, Global Vision

In its biannual board retreat, the Drupal Association reviewed the opportunities for Drupal in Europe. Their discussion point? Expansion of Drupal in Europe to better serve the European Drupal Community's needs. 

Together with local communities at large, the Drupal Association is looking for the best way forward to strengthen the strategic position of Drupal as a global initiative built upon local Drupal communities. To envisage a course of action, a European Working Group is being formed, where the Network of European Drupal Associations (NEDA) will work together with the Drupal Association (DA) to explore the possibilities of forming a pan-European Drupal Association and find the best governance model for collaboration.

A European Drupal Association will help to drive innovation and adoption of Drupal as a high-impact digital public good, hand-in-hand with our open-source community in the European local contexts. It will be a great vehicle to identify and explore opportunities for Drupal in Europe. Most importantly, local Drupal communities can elevate their local activities, making their events, training programs, and community efforts even stronger.

Finding the best governance models

The workgroup will bring together representatives from the DA and NEDA and will team up with professionals who work closely with the EU. The workgroup will investigate the best governance model, ensure it fits the European context, and create a solid foundation for a strong European Drupal presence.

The workgroup will explore different governance models to ensure the DA and future uniting associations like Drupal Europe work together constructively and upliftingly, with European Drupal communities leading their own initiatives while staying aligned with the broader Drupal mission.

Join the discussion at Drupal Dev Days Leuven

NEDA will host a meeting with the DA during the Drupal Dev Days in Leuven to discuss the opportunities and challenges that come with the formation of a Drupal Europe Association. Drupalcamp organisers, board members of local Drupal associations and other Drupal community leaders are invited to join the conversation in Leuven. The meeting will be held from 10:10 a.m. to 12:00 noon CEST.
