Survey Launched to Study How Universities Use Drupal
A survey has been launched by Drupal community member Emma Horrell to understand how universities and higher education institutions are currently using Drupal and what challenges they face in managing their digital platforms. The initiative invites responses from professionals working in higher education environments where Drupal supports institutional websites and digital services.
Higher education organisations often face digital requirements that differ from many other sectors. University websites typically manage large organisational structures, integrate with academic and administrative systems, and serve diverse audiences including prospective students, researchers, faculty members, and alumni.
The survey aims to gather insight into how institutions address these challenges in practice. Organisers hope to identify both technical and organisational patterns in how Drupal is implemented across universities, as well as areas where institutions encounter similar difficulties.
The questionnaire contains 30 questions organised into nine sections covering Drupal usage, governance, and collaboration within higher education environments. Participation is voluntary and not all questions are compulsory.
Responses may be submitted anonymously, though participants may choose to provide contact details if they are willing to be contacted for follow-up discussion. Data collected through the survey will be retained for up to 12 months and used to inform planning for the Higher Education Drupal community.
The initiative aims to support knowledge exchange and collaboration across universities using Drupal. Insights gathered from the survey may help shape future community activities, events, and initiatives designed to strengthen collaboration and representation of higher education needs within the wider Drupal ecosystem.
The survey is open until 20 March. More information and access to the questionnaire are available through the official survey link.
