Drupal Takes the Lead among CMSs in UK Councils
A recent survey conducted by Digital Health Check has unveiled that Drupal has emerged as the preferred content management system (CMS) among UK councils.
The study, encompassing all UK councils, revealed that 86 local councils have opted for Drupal as their CMS. This shift towards Drupal's open-source model can be largely attributed to the growing popularity of LocalGov Drupal, a platform now hosting 38 live council websites.
Colin Stenning, the author of the report titled "Drupal the Number One CMS for Councils", emphasized that Drupal has now established a clear lead over its competitors, with Jadu trailing behind. This transition from high-cost proprietary software to open-source solutions is anticipated to have led to significant cost savings for councils, ultimately benefiting taxpayers.
The recent adoption of LocalGov Drupal has seen a surge in the number of council websites leveraging the platform. Notable additions include North Devon Council, South Hams District Council, West Devon Borough Council, Wokingham Borough Council, and East Staffordshire Borough Council.
The statistics further underline Drupal's ascendancy, as it claims the top spot, with 86 councils choosing it as their CMS. Jadu follows with 68, while Umbraco, GOSS iCM, and Contensis secure their positions in the top five CMSs used by the local governments.
This achievement highlights the growing prominence of open-source solutions in the public sector and is expected to impact the fiscal responsibilities of councils positively. The report commends all who contributed to making this transition possible, with a special mention of Colin, who played a crucial role in the research.
