AI Disclosure Module Adds Article 50 Labelling Tools for Drupal

Drupal sites now have a contributed module for recording and presenting AI-content disclosure decisions under the European Union's transparency rules. AI Disclosure released its first alpha on 7 September 2026, followed by 1.0.0-alpha2 on 12 September for Drupal 10.4 and 11. The module records how AI was involved in content and can show readers a disclosure using European Commission icons while also providing site-wide reporting and machine-readable information.

Article 50 of the EU AI Act has applied since 2 August 2026 and sets transparency obligations for specified AI-generated or manipulated content. The AI Disclosure project says those requirements include deepfakes and certain AI-generated or manipulated text concerning matters of public interest, with an exception described for text that has undergone human review or editorial control where a person or organisation holds editorial responsibility. The module lets editors record the level of AI involvement, human review, editorial responsibility and explanatory information, then uses the site's configured disclosure rules to determine what it presents to the reader, including the relevant EU icon.

Release 1.0.0-alpha2 also provides an optional append-only audit trail, integration with Drupal Workflows and Content Moderation, disclosure suggestions, and an optional Tool API plugin through which AI tools can record their involvement. Pages can carry schema.org JSON-LD and an IPTC digital-source meta tag, while a compliance report shows disclosure information across site content and can be extended with CSV export. The project states that AI Disclosure supports a site's disclosure process but does not make the disclosure decision, provide legal advice, or certify compliance. Drupal.org currently lists no supported stable release for the project.
