University of Waterloo
The University of Waterloo is a public research university located in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. It has a main campus that spans 404 hectares and includes six faculties and ten faculty-based schools. The university also operates four satellite campuses and four affiliated colleges. Established in 1957, it was created to address the need for trained engineers and technicians in Canada’s postwar economy. Over the years, it has expanded its academic offerings, including the addition of a faculty of arts and the College of Optometry of Ontario. The university serves nearly 26,000 undergraduate and over 4,000 postgraduate students, with a diverse alumni network across Canada and in more than 140 countries. The University of Waterloo is recognized for its research intensity and is a member of the U15 group of Canadian universities. Its varsity teams, known as the Waterloo Warriors, participate in the Ontario University Athletics conference.
