FREITAG lab. AG

FREITAG is a company founded in 1993 by graphic designers Markus and Daniel Freitag, who created a unique line of bags from recycled materials. Their first product, a messenger bag made from used truck tarpaulins, bicycle inner tubes, and car seat belts, was developed in their apartment in Zurich. This innovative approach led to the establishment of a brand that caters to urban cyclists and individuals seeking functional and sustainable bags.

The product range has expanded to include over 40 models, such as smartphone sleeves, shoppers, and notebook bags, under the FUNDAMENTALS line. In 2010, they introduced the REFERENCE collection, which features high-quality bags made from vintage truck tarps. The Freitag brothers continue to oversee the design and development of all products.

In 2014, FREITAG launched F-ABRIC, a line of compostable textiles made from vegetable fibers, produced sustainably within a 2500-kilometer radius of their factory. Their headquarters, located in the Noerd industrial complex in Zurich-Oerlikon, spans over 80,000 square feet, where they handcraft their bags by disassembling, washing, and cutting the tarps. FREITAG emphasizes a cyclical approach to production, considering both profitability and environmental impact in their processes.
