The Year of Drupal Events: 2022

It’s been an incredibly exciting year for Drupal Events in 2022! We were excited to see the return of in-person Drupal Camps, where members of the Drupal community could come together to network, share knowledge, and collaborate on projects. We also saw hundreds of local meetups and dozens of events celebrating the release of the much-anticipated Drupal 10.

The Event Organizer Working Group has been hard at work keeping up with the demand, providing resources and avenues of collaboration among event organizers. The Drupal Community page released a blog post which outlined three primary initiatives this year: Drupal.org Community Events, the Events Platform, and self-care marketing for EOWG. In addition, they piloted a new Camp Debriefs concept to help provide event organizers with tools to make their events successful.

Drupal.org/community/events

Launched in 2020, the Drupal Community Events page serves as a consolidated listing of Drupal events worldwide. It facilitates the promotion, encourages collaboration, and gives the community data about what’s happening. This single source enables the community to easily find events, leading to more engagement and connection. It empowers them to share experiences and knowledge, helping each other grow and thrive.

In 2022 over 200 events were posted to the Community Events listing:

  • 126 Local meetups

  • 58 pieces of training

  • 27 Drupal Camps

  • 14 (standalone) Contribution Events (see a discussion of this tag)

  • 2 DrupalFests

  • 2 DrupalCons

Lots of work was done on Drupal.org using data - user profiles, organization pages and an events view to help organizers. See the full details and what's ahead.

Event Platform

The Event Platform took capabilities built for the Florida DrupalCamp website in 2022 and made it easier for any event organizer to use. This includes tokens in default messaging (including emails) for minimal installation effort. Read more about the 2022 releases and check out the project.

Marketing the EOWG

The Event Platform took capabilities built for the Florida DrupalCamp website in 2022 and made it easier for any event organizer to use. This includes tokens in default messaging (including emails) for minimal installation effort. Read more about the 2022 releases and check out the project.

The Event Organizer's Working Group (EOWG) updated monthly newsletter design and content to promote upcoming meetings, camps, and contribution events posted to Drupal.org. Post events to drupal.org/community/events to be pulled in by EOWG and others.

In April, the EOWG and other initiatives had a booth at DrupalCon Portland. There, they met with organizers and promoted relevant sessions and BoFs, which were well-attended. Keep looking forward to DrupalCon Pittsburgh in 2023. More info coming soon. At the end of the year, the Drupal Community moved to the main Drupal Slack in the #event-organizers channel, which we hope will increase visibility and help engage the larger community by reducing the number of Slack instances organizers need to join.

It’s been a busy and unforgettable year for the Drupal community, and it looks like there’s plenty more in store for 2023
