Drupal Association Selected to Host a Young African Fellow

The Drupal Association has been selected to provide a six-week virtual professional placement for Denaya Dennis, an Alumni Fellow from South Sudan, as part of the Alumni Professional Development Experience (PDE) component of the Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders. This highly competitive program, sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, will begin on January 23, 2023, and conclude on March 3, 2023.

During this time, Denaya will gain valuable professional skills and experience by working with the Drupal Association and interacting with U.S. non-governmental organizations, private companies, and government agencies. This PDE will provide a mutually beneficial experience for both Denaya and the Drupal Association, as it will allow them to engage in meaningful exchange activities.

Denaya Dennis Manoah Nigo is an ICT practitioner and M&E specialist who founded Koneta Hub. He was a teaching assistant for four years at the University of Juba and aims to return. During the PDE, he hopes to develop leadership, fundraising and multicultural engagement skills. In 2019, he completed the Mandela Washington Fellowship at the University of Notre Dame.

The Mandela Washington Fellowship,  Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) flagship program, empowers African leaders with academic coursework, training, mentoring, networking, professional opportunities, and community engagement. YALI, created in 2010, supports young Africans to spur economic growth, strengthen governance, and enhance peace. Since 2014, nearly 5,800 Sub-Saharan African leaders have participated.

The Drupal Association serves the global community and honours cultivating professional development opportunities with Denaya. This includes community engagement, local needs assessments, site-building skills, and networking opportunities.
