DrupalSouth Seeks Candidates for 2026 Steering Committee

Community members across Australia and New Zealand can now nominate themselves for the 2026 DrupalSouth Steering Committee election. The five-member committee provides continuity for regional Drupal governance and supports activities that extend beyond the annual DrupalSouth conference. Candidate responses submitted through the nomination form will be published on the DrupalSouth website before the community vote, and the form lists 30 September 2026 as the closing date.

Candidates must self-nominate and be prepared to serve an initial two-year term on a volunteer basis. Elected members must also join Linux Australia, which acts as the governing body for the DrupalSouth standing subcommittee; membership is free. The nomination form states that committee meetings are monthly and event meetings are weekly, generally lasting about one hour, with members expected to complete follow-up work in their own time. Committee members receive no financial compensation.

The committee consists of five members, with a minimum of two women and two New Zealanders under DrupalSouth's representation rules. Its core responsibilities include maintaining governance continuity and knowledge transfer, distributing responsibility for community initiatives, selecting annual DrupalSouth conference venues, supporting local organising teams, and managing budgets for grants, camps, and other smaller initiatives. Gold Coast has already been selected for DrupalSouth 2027 and Canberra for 2028.

The committee may also support regional meetups and smaller camps, coordinate training and corporate outreach, assist with regional marketing, oversee local Code of Conduct matters, and liaise with Linux Australia and the Drupal Association on regional and global initiatives. Candidates who cannot attend a scheduled meeting are expected to notify other committee members through the DrupalSouth Committee Slack channel.
