The Pitchburgh Diaries unveils Sprints 5 and 6 which have marked the conclusion of their ambitious project to create a decoupled Layout Builder using React. These sprints have paved the way for a comprehensive wrap-up and the upcoming steps to be shared with the public in the coming weeks, writes Lee Rowlands in PreviousNext blog.

During Sprints 5 and 6, the project team's focus was on the integration of contrib and custom code to enhance the functionality of the decoupled Layout Builder. To achieve this, they initiated the development of a Drupal 10-compatible version of the React module, representing a significant milestone for their project. Additionally, the team introduced a novel import maps module that harnesses the power of a browser API known as import maps, offering a streamlined approach to manage ECMAScript modules with naked imports. This methodology simplifies the bundling process, extending its benefits to both contrib and custom code related to the decoupled Layout Builder.

Furthermore, the development process shed light on the adoption of Vite, a contemporary bundling tool, in their utility Drupal scripts package. By aligning themselves with the industry's transition from Webpack to Vite, a more agile and robust solution, the project showcases their commitment to staying at the forefront of web development tools. Their forthcoming npm package, @drupal/scripts, will provide developers with simplified building steps and support for the creation of scaffolding components. This underscores the dynamic nature of web development tools and reflects the project's dedication to keeping pace with these evolving advancements. Read more here.
