Drupal Starshot Initiative is Now Officially 'Drupal CMS'
Dries Buytaert, the founder and lead of Drupal, has announced that "Drupal CMS" will be the official name for the product developed under the Drupal Starshot Initiative. This decision came after extensive user testing, revealing that both newcomers and experienced users favored the clarity provided by the new name.
"Having the words CMS in the name will make it clear what the product is,"
noted one participant.
"People would know that Drupal was a content management system by the nature of its name, rather than having to ask what Drupal is."
The name change aims to enhance the product's accessibility and understanding among potential users, including marketers who may not be familiar with Drupal. One designer commented,
"I'm a designer familiar with the industry, so the term CMS or content management system is the term or phrase that describes this product most accurately in my opinion. I think it is important to have CMS in the title."
The internal code name "Drupal Starshot" will be used until the first release of Drupal CMS, after which it is expected to be retired. This rebranding effort reflects Drupal's commitment to clarity and user-friendliness, as it continues to evolve in the competitive content management system market.
