Drupal Forge Introduces Revenue-Sharing Business Model for Vendor Collaboration
Darren Oh has introduced the business model behind Drupal Forge, focusing on sustaining Drupal’s software and infrastructure through vendor contributions. Under this model, vendors can partner with product owners, such as the Drupal Association, by offering product trials via launch buttons integrated into their hosting platforms.
Vendors can choose to either share a portion of their subscription revenue with the product owner or pay a one-time referral fee for each customer subscription. The recurring revenue option is encouraged as it provides long-term sustainability for Drupal products. Drupal Forge also supports vendors who lack their own hosting platforms, offering pre-configured packages for AWS and Digital Ocean, along with Stripe payment integration for simplified setup.
In addition to facilitating hosting services, the model allows unofficial vendors to create their own revenue-sharing splits with product owners. This flexible approach ensures that both small and large vendors can contribute to the Drupal ecosystem while benefiting from product associations. Drupal Forge's business model is designed to promote collaboration within the community while ensuring the ongoing financial support necessary for Drupal’s development and growth.
