FOSS United: Championing Free and Open Source Software in India

FOSS United, a non-profit foundation dedicated to advancing Free and Open-Source Software (FOSS) in India, is working to invigorate the country’s FOSS ecosystem. Despite India's status as a burgeoning tech hub, the foundation believes that the FOSS culture has been overshadowed by commercial software growth, resulting in fewer high-quality FOSS projects compared to the global landscape.

FOSS United aims to revitalize the spirit of hacking and open-source collaboration by supporting grassroots projects, events, and a collaborative community-industry network. Their mission focuses on fostering a culture of innovation, promoting FOSS usage across sectors, and building quality open-source software for the public good.

To engage diverse participants, FOSS United has launched several programs. These include City Communities, which connect enthusiasts locally, and FOSS Clubs, which encourage students to explore open-source development. The OASIS coalition extends FOSS into the social sector, emphasizing software for social good.

Additionally, FOSS United hosts flagship events like "IndiaFOSS", an annual conference celebrating FOSS, and "FOSS Hack," a hackathon designed to bring together enthusiasts to create impactful open-source projects.
