Bert Boerland Reflects on 24 Years of Drupal and New CMS Launch
Drupal recently celebrated its 24th anniversary with the launch of its latest release, Drupal CMS, formerly known as "Starshot. " This milestone in Drupal's journey of innovation and collaboration marks a milestone. Bert Boerland, a senior sales executive at SUSE and chair of the Dutch Drupal Association, reflected on Drupal's evolution from a modest idea to a global community of developers and contributors. Drawing parallels to the collaborative efforts behind the 1969 moon landing, Bert emphasized the community's shared vision and dedication over the decades.
The new Drupal CMS embodies accessibility, scalability, and sustainability while aiming to redefine the role of the "webmaster." Bert highlighted the contributions of individuals like Dries Buytaert, Drupal’s founder, and the dedication of local communities, including the Dutch Drupal Association, which celebrated the launch with a gathering of 50 members. He credited the success to thousands of contributors and acknowledged the Dutch Drupal board members for their efforts in fostering community-driven initiatives like DrupalJam and the Splash Awards. Boerland encouraged reflections on Drupal’s journey and its transformative impact on digital innovation.
