MidCamp 2025 to Feature Training on Drupal Theme Reverse Engineering
MidCamp 2025 will feature a hands-on training session on May 20 at DePaul University’s Lincoln Park Student Center in Chicago, focusing on reverse engineering contributed Drupal themes. Titled "Franken Theme – Reverse Engineering Contributed Themes," the session will be led by Bernardo Martinez, a front-end developer at Vaultes with extensive experience in Drupal and WordPress development.
The training aims to help developers better understand the vast ecosystem of contributed and core Drupal themes. It will explore reusable components, practical theming challenges, and strategies to improve efficiency in custom theme development. Attendees will analyze real-world use cases, examining how developers utilize technologies such as Twig, SASS, CSS, hooks, bundlers, TailwindCSS, and Bootstrap. The session will also highlight the benefits of contributing to community themes, best practices for reverse engineering, and the role of theme recipes in Drupal projects.
Through guided instruction and interactive exercises, participants will explore multiple themes, including OpenY, DrupalX, Drupal Commerce, Umami, and DrupalGovCon2017. The session aims to save developers time and effort when upgrading or building new themes by addressing common theming challenges and reviewing successful implementations.
MidCamp 2025, which will take place from May 20 to 22, is an annual Drupal conference that brings together developers, designers, and community members to share knowledge and collaborate on open-source projects.
