Upcoming Drupal Marketplace and Site Templates Aim to Simplify Site Building
Drupal Nederland has published a blog post titled “Drupal Marketplace & Site Templates: What's Coming – and Why You Need to Know,” highlighting an initiative under the Starshot project aimed at simplifying Drupal site building. The post introduces the concepts of Site Templates and a potential Drupal Marketplace, designed to enable users, especially non-technical ones, to launch fully functional websites faster using preconfigured themes, modules, and content. These templates would cater to specific use cases such as NGO sites, portfolios, or small business pages.
The Drupal Marketplace, still in its exploratory phase, envisions a centralised hub where individuals, agencies, or organisations can find, contribute to, or even monetise Drupal templates. The goal is to make Drupal more accessible and appealing to broader audiences, particularly those drawn to plug-and-play platforms like WordPress or Wix. This aligns with Starshot’s broader strategy to lower the barrier to entry for Drupal adoption without compromising its flexibility.
The blog underscores that the initiative is community-driven, transparent, and open to feedback. The working group—including contributors from the Drupal Association and Starshot leadership—plans to present a proposal at DrupalCon Vienna in October 2025. While the Marketplace itself isn’t live yet, experimental templates and community engagement opportunities are already underway. The post encourages agencies, developers, and site builders to participate actively in shaping this initiative’s future
