Drupal AI 1.1.0 Introduces Agentic Framework, Enabling No-Code AI Agent Deployment
The Drupal community has released version 1.1.0 of Drupal AI, introducing the Agentic framework—a major update that allows users to build and deploy AI agents without writing code.
The framework stores agents as configurations, enabling them to be reused and triggered across multiple interfaces, including chatbots, command-line tools, APIs, and widgets. Built to align with Drupal’s content management features, these agents adhere to content permissions and allow for human oversight, positioning Drupal as a versatile platform for AI workflows.
“This new initiative will greatly enhance Drupal’s future in AI,” said Marcus Johansson, a senior developer at FreelyGive and contributor to the project. He announced the release on LinkedIn and shared his presentation at Drupal Developer Days Leuven, showing the new capabilities.
The update also introduces standardized tooling based on the MCP model, allowing for smoother integration with external AI services such as OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Vertex, Milvus, and Ollama. This standardization aims to simplify the sharing and reuse of agents across different systems.
In addition to backend improvements, Drupal AI 1.1.0 features a new visual testing tool, enabling users to simulate and retest agent behaviors without technical expertise. The update also supports visual agent configuration using the modeler API and BPMN.io, with browser-based tools under active development.
