Mautic Introduces Developer Certification to Standardise Open Source Expertise

Mautic Launches Developer Certification to Validate Open Source Expertise

Mautic has introduced a developer certification programme to provide a formal mechanism for validating expertise within its open source marketing automation ecosystem. The initiative, announced by Barsha Devi in a blog post published on 10 March 2026, responds to increasing demand for a recognised standard as adoption of the platform expands.

The certification, scheduled to launch on 16 March 2026, is designed to help developers demonstrate practical knowledge while giving organisations a clearer way to identify qualified professionals. It reflects a shift from informal recognition through contributions toward structured validation of skills in configuring, extending, and maintaining Mautic-based systems.

The programme focuses on applied capabilities rather than theoretical assessment. According to the announcement, the exam will evaluate tasks such as platform configuration for different use cases, performance optimisation for scalable automation, development of custom integrations, debugging and troubleshooting, and applying solutions in real-world implementation scenarios. The assessment will be delivered online through a secure proctored environment.

The launch comes as the Mautic ecosystem continues to grow, with contributors building integrations and supporting deployments across a range of organisational contexts. As usage expands from small teams to enterprise environments, the need for a consistent benchmark of developer capability has become more visible within the community.

The certification programme has been developed through collaboration between the Mautic project and Axelerant, combining community input with experience from production-level implementations. The organisers position the initiative as a way to strengthen the ecosystem by supporting talent development and improving trust between developers and organisations.

The developer certification is the first component of a broader roadmap. Additional certifications for marketers and integrators are planned for the second quarter, indicating an effort to formalise multiple roles within the Mautic ecosystem as the project continues to mature.
