MapKit JS 6 Updates Apple Maps Integration for Web Developers
Developers adding Apple Maps to websites and web apps have a new version of MapKit JS to review. In a WebKit blog post published on 9 June 2026, Tim Chien introduced MapKit JS 6 as an update focused on modern web development workflows.
The update may be relevant to Drupal and web teams building map-based features in custom frontends, decoupled projects, or companion web applications. MapKit JS 6 adds website-bound static tokens, an npm loader package, selective library loading, browser-standard event handling through the EventTarget model, and Promise-based workflows for place lookup.
Apple’s post presents use cases including store locators, travel planners, and web experiences connected to native apps. Developers using earlier implementations should review Apple’s MapKit JS documentation and migration guide before changing production integrations.
