How to Give New Life to Drupal 7 with Backdrop CMS: Webinar

A Webinar by Aten Design Group will present how to breathe new life into a Drupal 7 website. The webinar will discuss upgrading Drupal 7 to Backdrop CMS. Webinar is on June 14, 2023, 12 PM MDT.

Backdrop is a Free and Open-Source Content Management System written on PHP. It helps to build modern, comprehensive websites for businesses and non-profits. 

Backdrop is a fork of the Drupal project and is an excellent alternative. Drupal and Backdrop have different goals today but have a shared history. 

According to the organizers, such a move comes at a meager cost than upgrading to Drupal 9. The webinar will use Aten's recent work with the Stanford Bio-X website as a case study. It will cover how:

• Backdrop relieves the pressure and uncertainty of Drupal 7's looming End of Life.
• Out-of-the-box improvements in Backdrop come for free with the upgrade (think accessibility, performance, usability).
• Drupal 7 themes can be conceptually split into layout and theme, and the current theme can be replicated, refreshed, or replaced.
• Configuration management helps dramatically in the upgrade process.
• The relative smoothness of a direct upgrade path (compared with a migration) can leave extra room in the budget for other improvements as follow-ups.
• Content can be consolidated and terms reworked or merged after the upgrade.
