National Library of Ireland's Drupal Transformation
Annertech, in collaboration with bigO, has unveiled an exceptional case study highlighting their transformative work on the National Library of Ireland's (NLI) website. With over one million annual page views, the NLI's website serves as the primary gateway for the public to access crucial information.
The NLI had long relied on an aging website built on a custom CMS with ASPX technology. However, as time passed, it became evident that a change was necessary. Not only did the old website fail to align with NLI's brand identity, but it also offered limited room for creative expression.
In a remarkable partnership, Annertech and bigO joined forces to create a new website for the National Library of Ireland, replacing the outdated platform with a sleek and dynamic Drupal-based solution. Annertech took the lead on development, while bigO focused on designing a visually appealing and user-friendly website.
Libraries, particularly institutions of the NLI's stature, serve multifaceted roles and cater to diverse user needs. To address these complex requirements, the central tenets of the website's design revolved around accessibility and flexibility. Drupal 9, the chosen platform for this project, proved instrumental in achieving these objectives.
Approximately 10 patches to Drupal core and contrib modules were meticulously tested and integrated into the site's framework. These enhancements not only optimized the website's performance but also contributed to advancing Drupal as a more stable and versatile platform.
The revitalized National Library of Ireland website not only reflects a modern and cohesive brand identity but also offers visitors an engaging and accessible platform to explore the NLI's rich resources and services.
