Drupal Association Announces 2025 Social Media Strategy, Prioritizes LinkedIn and Open Source Platforms
The Drupal Association has outlined a new, tiered social media strategy grounded in community values and platform efficacy. LinkedIn is now the primary channel, delivering the highest engagement and targeting professional users effectively. Mastodon and Bluesky are being piloted for six months as "emerging preferred platforms," aligning with open source and decentralization principles. If either surpasses 5,000 followers, they will gain preferred status.
Instagram and Facebook remain active but secondary, used mainly for visual storytelling, event marketing, and broad announcements. The Association is winding down activity on X/Twitter, citing low engagement and platform misalignment. Accounts will remain for redirection purposes.
This plan distinguishes between three brand channels: Drupal, Drupal Association, and DrupalCon, each with targeted messaging. The strategy reflects a deliberate shift toward meaningful engagement over broad broadcasting, reinforcing Drupal’s mission to foster a values-driven, open web community.
