How to Contribute to Drupal Core: Session at DrupalCon Vienna 2025

At DrupalCon Vienna 2025, core maintainers Matt Glaman and Mike Herchel will lead a session titled “How to Land an EPIC Contribution in Drupal (Without Losing Your Mind)” on Wednesday, October 15, from 16:15 to 17:00. The session aims to demystify the process of getting features or bug fixes into Drupal core, Drupal CMS, or major contributed projects, even for those without a development background.

Targeting intermediate attendees, the talk will break down each stage of the contribution journey, from identifying fixable issues to navigating the complexities of communication and finally getting a merge request accepted. Matt and Mike will also present real-world case studies that reveal both the successes and struggles behind notable contributions.

Topics will include how to pitch ideas to stakeholders, build a team, ensure your work is review-ready, and communicate effectively throughout the process. Attendees will leave with practical strategies and renewed confidence to make meaningful improvements to the Drupal ecosystem.
