Drupal Code Query Adds MCP Server for Core and Contrib Analysis

Coding agents can now query Drupal ecosystem data through a hosted Model Context Protocol server added to Drupal Code Query. Drupal core JavaScript maintainer Théodore Biadala, creator of the service, announced the MCP interface in a 20 August 2026 blog post published by Très Bien Tech. Théodore said the underlying dataset and query API have been available since February, with the MCP server providing a new interface optimised for language models.

The interface gives coding agents access to evidence beyond the repository currently being edited. Its tools can search indexed Drupal core and contributed-project source code, compare core APIs between versions, retrieve change records, identify contrib users of core symbols, and generate project upgrade reports. Other tools cover project usage trends, declared dependencies and projects reported together on sites without declared dependencies, while a subsystem-coupling tool draws on continuous integration history from roughly 9,000 Drupal core merge requests to identify areas whose tests tend to fail together. The server also exposes read-only DuckDB queries for questions not covered by the dedicated tools.

The MCP layer extends tooling previously covered by The DropTimes. February coverage examined the contrib code-search service and its API, while May coverage looked at Théodore's use of the dataset to analyse long-term Drupal core and contrib changes. The new interface packages that existing evidence for agent-facing queries, including investigations of core API changes, contrib dependencies, change-record adoption, and project readiness for target Drupal versions.
