Varbase Starter 1.0 Reaches Stable Release as Recipe-First Site Template
After several prerelease versions, Varbase Starter 1.0.0 became the project's first stable release on 6 September 2026. Drupal.org describes the project as the default site template for Varbase 11 and the recipe-first successor to Varbase's older profile-distribution install. The template can be used with either Drupal CMS or Varbase.
Rather than assembling the starting site through a traditional installation profile, Varbase Starter composes 24 Drupal CMS and Varbase recipes into a working site. The template installs Vartheme BS5, sets /home as the front page, and provides a home page built with Drupal Canvas. Search API configuration, demo content, editorial workflow, content moderation, and content access settings are also included.
According to the 1.0.0 release notes, Varbase base recipes and Vartheme BS5 now use stable version constraints instead of development constraints, allowing the template to resolve under Composer's default stability setting. The current Drupal CMS setup instructions on the project page, however, still tell users to set minimum-stability dev. The documentation therefore remains inconsistent with the stable-release guidance.
