Acquia Rebrand Puts Drupal Back at the Center
New branding from Acquia places “Powered by Drupal” directly beneath the company name as Drupal becomes more prominent in the company's public positioning. Acquia co-founder Dries Buytaert wrote in a 14 September 2026 blog post that Drupal had remained central to Acquia but had become less visible in how the company described itself over the previous five years. The company's website now presents Acquia around content and an “agentic content platform” rather than its previous digital experience platform positioning.
The product story centres on Acquia Source, which brings content management, digital asset management, web governance, and AI into a shared workspace. Acquia Source CMS is built on Drupal, while Acquia AI provides specialised agents for content and governance workflows. Acquia says actions taken by its AI agents are queued for human review before reaching production.
Dries linked the stronger Drupal branding to Acquia's approach to AI-assisted content operations, pointing to Drupal's structured content, permissions, workflows, and revision history as controls for agent-driven work. He also said Acquia plans to invest more in helping the Drupal community reach developers and marketing leaders who may not have revisited Drupal in recent years. The change makes Acquia's relationship with Drupal more explicit while the company reorganises its product positioning around Source, governed content, and AI.
