AI Automators Agent Brings AI Agents Into Drupal Field Automation

A new contributed module lets Drupal field automations hand tasks to configured AI agents instead of sending prompts directly to an AI provider. AI Automators Agent 1.0.0-beta3, released on 9 September 2026, supports Drupal 10.5, Drupal 11.2 and Drupal 12. Jibran Ijaz, senior Drupal AI developer at Morpht, described the integration in a 17 September article. The module adds an LLM: AI Agent automator type that sends the rendered field prompt to a configured agent and stores the agent's final response.

Morpht demonstrates the module with a Similar Content field connected to an agent using AI Search retrieval against the site's vector index. The agent searches for related content, evaluates the results and returns a formatted list for the automator to store. The demonstration writes those links into a text field rather than creating entity references, which remain planned future work. Provider selection, system instructions, available tools and execution limits are controlled through the agent configuration rather than the field automator.

The beta supports string, string_long, text and text_long fields. Structured or JSON agent output can run through the integration but is currently stored as a plain string. Automator-level guardrails do not apply when a task is routed through an agent, so behavioural and safety controls need to be configured at the agent level. The project is not covered by Drupal's security advisory policy, and Morpht describes the current beta as a working proof of concept to try rather than something to run unattended in a production workflow.
