Paragraphs Bundles 2.0 and VVJS 2.0.1 Require Planned Upgrades
Before moving to Paragraphs Bundles 2.0 or Views Slideshow VVJS 2.0.1, Drupal teams need to check more than the version number. Both newer branches require Drupal 11.3 or Drupal 12 and PHP 8.3 or later, while their documented upgrade paths include dependency checks, database updates and changes that can affect existing site customisations.
Paragraphs Bundles 2.0 Is a One-Way Upgrade
Paragraphs Bundles 2.0 rewrites the module's internals for Drupal 11.3 and Drupal 12 while keeping existing paragraph content, field machine names and stored display values. The project documentation says the upgrade from 1.x is one-way, with no downgrade path other than restoring a backup.
Sites must first update to the latest 1.x release and run its database updates. Version 2.0 refuses to continue when the Paragraphs Bundles schema is below 9004, so an intermediate update is required before installing the new branch. The documentation calls for database and files backups before proceeding.
Custom theme CSS and JavaScript also need review. Structural classes now use a BEM-style naming pattern, and outer element IDs have changed. Because an outdated selector can simply stop matching without a runtime warning, sites with theme-level customisations should review their selectors before the upgrade.
The documented sequence is to install the 2.0 branch, run drush updb and then drush cr. Paragraph content itself is not migrated; the database updates add shared fields, reorganise the Display tab and regenerate per-paragraph stylesheets.
Paragraphs Bundles 2.0 requires Paragraphs ^1.18, Entity Reference Revisions ^1.10 and Field Group ^3.4 || ^4. The project page also notes that Composer installation on Drupal 12 depends on a Drupal 12-compatible Paragraphs release being available.
The 2.0 branch also introduces broader changes beyond compatibility. These include the Paragraphs List administration page, generated stylesheets for editor styling, removal of jQuery from several interactive components, accessibility fixes and optional AI and APEX responsive-image submodules. The project page now lists Paragraphs Bundles 2.0.1 as the current stable 2.x release, published on 7 October 2026.
VVJS 2.0.1 Converts Saved Views to the New Schema
Views Slideshow VVJS 2.0.1 addresses saved slideshow Views created with the 1.x option format. Update 10002 converts numeric values stored as strings and boolean values stored as integers into the types required by the 2.x configuration schema, preventing migrated slideshow Views from failing schema validation.
The release requires Drupal ^11.3 || ^12, PHP 8.3 or later, Views and VVJ Core ^2.0. The update order matters because VVJS 2.0.1 relies on a converter added to VVJ Core after version 2.0.0.
Sites should therefore update VVJ Core first, then update VVJS and run drush updb followed by drush cr. The VVJS update is safe to run again and does nothing to Views that already use the 2.x option shape.
Compatibility Does Not Remove Migration Work
The two releases illustrate different kinds of upgrade risk. Paragraphs Bundles changes internal structure and front-end selectors while preserving stored content, whereas VVJS focuses on converting existing configuration into a schema accepted by its 2.x branch.
For maintainers, the practical checks are therefore different: Paragraphs Bundles sites need to verify the 1.x schema level, backups, theme selectors and dependencies, while VVJS sites need to confirm that VVJ Core is upgraded before the database conversion runs. In both cases, declaring compatibility with a newer Drupal core does not make the migration itself automatic.
