Job Responsibilities

The Campus Web Services team within The University of Arizona is looking for a creative, enthusiastic and self-motivated Drupal Back-end Developer who is passionate about collaborative web development. As part of the unified web experience initiative, you will be focused on supporting their Drupal 9 migration efforts, the development of campus-wide web projects, and integrations with campus systems.

In addition to supporting over 300 websites for various campus clients, the development team collaborates with web professionals from across campus to support and maintain the University’s custom Drupal distribution, Arizona Quickstart, as well as other projects.

You will also support the team’s initiatives by providing web development support for Arizona Quickstart.

This position is extended temporary up to 18 months with a potential for continuation based on funding.

Responsibilities include:

  • Provides back-end development support for migration of supported websites from Quickstart 1 (Drupal 7) to Quickstart 2 (Drupal 9).
  • Assists with and contributes to the development of reusable components for the Arizona Quickstart project.
  • Collaborates with design and development team members to solve problems in a scalable and maintainable manner.
  • Isolates, identifies, articulates, and resolves problems discovered by clients or end users in systems that are already in production.
  • Assists with the creation and maintenance of documentation for individual systems and for general procedures.
  • Designs and develops custom solutions for integrations with campus systems.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience is typically required.
  • OR; Any equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities.
  • Demonstrated experience with HTML, CSS, Javascript, PHP and MySQL.
  • Demonstrated experience with Drupal development, including building custom modules and themes from scratch.
  • Knowledge of object-oriented programming design patterns.
  • Demonstrated experience with git and/or GitHub.
  • Experience working from command-line interfaces.
  • Experience with automated testing, dependency management (NPM, composer) and CI/CD (GitLab, GitHub, Jenkins, etc.).
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to effectively collaborate.

Bonus Skills

  • Experience working in higher education.
  • Experience developing Drupal install profiles or distributions.
  • Experience with migrations to Drupal 8/9.
  • Experience developing code in a collaborative environment with peer code review, coding standard checks, etc.
  • Familiarity with modern PHP best practices, tools, and frameworks.
  • Experience with object-oriented PHP programming.
  • Experience with PHP unit or similar unit testing frameworks.
  • Experience with Bootstrap or similar CSS frameworks.
  • Experience with Docker.
  • Experience contributing to Drupal or other open-source projects.
  • Familiarity with web accessibility best practices

Pay Scale: $ 62,000-$87,000 DOE
