Accessibility Workshop by A11yTalks at WWCode

A11yCat AmyJune Hineline, on behalf of A11yTalks, will present "Beyond 99 Red Balloons: A Guide to Alternative Text" at Women Who Code Connect Empower 2023. It will be a 50-minute session, focusing on what you can do as a content author to guarantee your users' inclusivity. AmyJune, who works at Red Hat, is the Senior Community Manager for Opensource.com.

Women Who Code CONNECT Empower is an online developer conference, a one-day event on March 02, 2023, from 8:00 am to 7:00 pm Eastern Standard Time. AmyJune's session will start at 5:00 pm EST on Thursday, March 02.

Accessible code is imperative for inclusion, but code doesn't do any good if the content is not meaningful to your reader. In this session, you will learn what you can do as a content author to ensure your readers' inclusivity beyond semantic markup and structured content. And because images are often included in digital assets to support and add context to information and concepts, you will also learn the best practices for adding alternative text. This fun hands-on workshop will use imagery from the 1980s music scene. From "99 Red Balloons" shaking us all night to "Burning Down the House," you won't leave any of your users behind!

WWCode CONNECT Empower 2023 will celebrate International Women's Day by offering career insights, technological education, professional tools, and community support to help women flourish in their technology careers.
